We have saved at least one person so far!

One big goal of this site is to show prospective students what it is actually like at Babson. Babson has some good marketing materials, and it’s hard to get the real story without actually being here. Which is why we expose the stuff that is hard to find – so kids can make informed decisions.

Here’s an email we received recently:

Hey,

I was recently admmited to Babson and I was thinking of going, I read your site about how they sold all the entrepreneurship thing.. Is it all a lie?

I was also admmited to other better schols like Wharton, Goizuetta (emory) etc etc

Should I go to these instead of Wharton?

I heard of a person who studies there that the workload is out of this world… Is this true?

Thanks

So I sent a nice little reply back…

Hi,
I’m not going to say whether or not you should go to Babson, but I’ll throw some stuff out there. If you don’t have any experience in business, you might learn some good stuff. But I’ve learned A LOT more from getting out there and doing something than I have in the classroom.
Don’t expect to learn exactly how to start a business, and don’t expect to remember the stuff you learn at the future point in time when you might need it.
If I knew in high school what I know now about this school, I wouldn’t have come here.
Wharton is much more well known than Babson. If you’re looking for a corporate finance or investment banking job in Boston, you might get some good connection through Babson. Anywhere else, they probably will not know the name Babson.
If you want to do your own thing, I suggest going somewhere where there is not an enormous workload. They give out so much homework here it’s hard to do any substantial entrepreneurial undertaking without your GPA dropping like a rock.
Anyone that wants to have fun and not waste their college experience in the library, go somewhere else.
I’ve met a couple good friends here that are also entrepreneurs, which is what I was hoping for… but if you go to a bigger school, there will probably be more entrepreneurs, even though it would be a lower percentage.
And for the money, I don’t see the value here.
If I’ve left anything out, feel free to ask.

And I heard back…
Thanks for your informative emailI think I am not joining Babson… I am going to Wharton since I wan to have a good college experience and still have time to do the entrepreneurship stuff..thanks a bunch
I have done my good deed for the day.

fuckin right. i had a very similar case to this happen to me about a month ago, my reply to her was this:

“if you have the slightest bit of the following, don’t come here:

    1. creativity
    2. the needing of a legit college experience
    3. the need for warm weather
    4. entrepreneurial endevours

although this is a great school for teaching entrepreneurship, its a terrible school for entrepreneurs.

if you have interest in a social life that extends beyond 4 friends drinking profusely in a dorm room to drown out the monotony of everyday life… dont come here.

    hope this helps”

heh, i dont think shes coming here.
