its amazing how small some of the social networks are here. not to mention that people DO NOT branch out of them. im guessing a maximum of about 10 kids per clique, if that (excluding greeks and athletic teams). people lock into their cliques so hard, like fuckin ridgid. i have no idea why, its worse than my high school (1,400 students, suburbia). even more stupid is i feel like there is a social hierarchy at this place, but not everyone succumbs to it as they did in high school. its fuckin college, there shouldnt be "the popular crowd" or whatever. and it pisses this assholes/bitches/pricks off even more when you dont give a shit about the imaginary pecking order they've made up in their own little worlds. everyone hates greeks, esp sports teams. greeks hate the sports teams, and everyone hates GDI's! jk. but i dont understand why the sports teams think so highly of themselves...only a select few teams are acctualy any good, but the bottom line is NO ONE attends sporting events. which is sad, because on any other campus, football games unify beyond your wildest beliefs. greeks, dorks, athletes, punks, musicians, painters, finance majors, gym jockeys, whatever, EVERYONE TAILGATES! fuck this place...

one of the problems with babson is just that - there does seem to be so many unfriendly people. the problem with this that i'm not so sure that everyone at babson is an asshole - we just start to treat each other like that after a while, because that's how people treat us, and it just goes around and around again.
i am not a particularly outgoing person, i tend toward the shy and quiet side. i have a feeling that people at babson can interpret this as me feeling superior or whatever to them, when it couldn't be further from the truth.

the point is (i'm getting there, sorry) the kids at babson don't really know each other. we clique off into little units and don't really shy away from those units. most people here seem to have a few close friends and then a lot of people they just know.

but there is a lack of understanding on almost everyones part. that bitchy girl - maybe theres a story behind it, but you don't know the story because you don't know the girl. that cocky guy - maybe he feels he has to be cocky because he's really a closet gay and doesn't know any way else to express himself.

theres just a lot more than meets the eye with babson students. unfortunately - and i'll place some of the blame on the administration and the fact that we're a business school and inherently uber competitive - we just don't take the time to get below the babson skin.

look, everyone is a good person here - this place just makes us assholes.

will it stop? can it stop?
