Alumni Donations

In the spirit of reliving Alumni Weekend (and the previous post,) I thought I’d talk some more about alumni donations, because that is the only reason Babson cares about their alums. That’s also the reason they should care about current students, but obviously they don’t see the correlation. (Happy students = more alumni donations)

It’s funny some of the students I talk to. The majority say they will never donate anything back to Babson, and a few say they will only donate if they can ensure that it goes to student activities.

Why is that? Because the administrators don’t seem to care about student activities. Or maybe it’s just OCL, I don’t know. But somewhere in there, students get neglected! (Hence that lengthy post about lack of community…)

Because of this careless disregard, some students are looking to cost the campus money by donating miniscule amounts such as $1. That way, it will cost more for Babson to process the check than they will receive from the donation itself!

Babson better do something if they want any meaningful donations to continue! Actually, I’d be surprised if they get that many donations right now. Maybe from the older alums who get suckered into it during the phone-a-thon, but more recent grads probably won’t be so generous. I’m not sure how long the campus life has sucked, but I know some recent grads that don’t give a flying f*ck about this place.

Maybe a huge drop in alumni donations is just what we need to get Babson to take a look at things…

Or perhaps, in typical Babson fashion, they will figure out how to con alums out of money. For example, I guess there was a $30 fee to attend alumni weekend. Seriously, what makes it worth that? The nostalgia, the parade, or the warm beer?

[and by nostalgia I mean knowing that they are done with their time at Babson and are now free!]

Also, let me just remind you to read the last couple posts in their entirety. Unlike liberal arts readings, these posts are very worthwhile!
