Snow Day (…NOT)
I woke up this morning to plows. I look outside to find the blizzard that we expected to get. So naturally, I look at the computer and wander over to babson.edu to see if class got cancelled. Answer: absolutely not.
Apparently, we’re just about the only school in the Boston area that feels the need to have class during a blizzard (I think there were over 500 closed schools in the area today). More appropriately, we’re just about the only school that has absolutely no regard whatsoever for the safety of the staff and students.
Maybe the snowfall as of 8am wasn’t so horrible that the faculty, staff, and students couldn’t get to campus. But knowing that a blizzard has already started, and that this blizzard will turn to sleet, freezing rain, etc., then how is everyone supposed to get back home after the blizzard has set in and the roads are covered with freezing rain?
I only hope someone doesn’t have to pay the price with their life on the way back from class today for the administration to wake up and realize that having one snow day during the year isn’t such a horrible thing.
And it wouldn’t hurt for the admins to realize this is a COLLEGE, and that maybe snow days once in a while would improve the quality of life because no one likes doing 360′s on icy roads on the way to class, getting pinballed around among trees, cars, and other obstacles.
Anyway, stay safe everyone, and if you see Bareass around, smoke his nuts with your steel-toe boot for me and for all those whose insurance payments will double today as a result of the snow day that never was.

What’s the deal with the absolutely AWFUL job facilities did with the cleanup? Practically every walkway is a 2†sheet of ice. Personally, I slipped on my way down class and witness about 10 other people fall throughout the day. How difficult can it possibly be throw some salt on the walkways? Terrible job facilities.
To come to the defense of myself and my friends at facilities, let me explain first. This snow started after first recieiving rain. Temperatures dropped and the rain began freezing, then it turned to snow. So now you have freezing temperatures, rain on the bottom, wet snow, and then snow. As that rain cools its obviously tunrning to ice! thats just the first layer. Remember that it rained for a while after it stopped snowing. That rain melted more snow, and sent it to the bottom onto the ice, then it froze, and made more ice. Basically, walk across the upperfields, its almost a solid 3 inches of ice. Know how hard its been to clean off your car? It wasn’t much easier for us. There are a lot of sideawalks and streetsin this campus and sometimes, the snow/rain turns to ice faster than you can get to it. We try to get salt down right away, but when theres this much ice. the salt doesn’t work properly. Simply put, theres more ice than the salt can handle. It will take severeal days to get enough salt down to melt everything. They’re trying their best and believe me it is one of their concerns, but the weather is a little more difficult to manage than you think.
Honestly people, give us a break. These guys at facilities bust ass and stay up all night to the best damn job they can. Pray for some temps above freezing and thats the best that we can do.
Sincerely,
Bryan “Reverend Esby” Steward
I crashed my car that day because of the ice…..though my friend and I weren’t harmed….but it took more than 4k to fix my car.
