i thought the map hill elevator saga was an especially insightful article into how babson handles residential issues.

the most telling, and depressing, quote came at the last page (but you should read it all the way through anyway): “And I’m also glad our camera-in-the-elevator or the charge-everyone-on-campus suggestions got thrown instantly into the garbage. Way to put in some elbow grease for our cause. I love the communication on this campus.”

and some people still wonder why sites like crapcampus and oclruinedmycampuslife are updated and read regularly… students are angry because the school doesn’t seem listen to them. at all, really. the administration can’t even bother to respond to their suggestions. were those student emails even read by the administration? (bet they will be now.)

and as a male that enjoys alcohol, it’s no surprise to me at all that someone damaged the elevator. i myself have day dreamed many times about physically damaging babson property (like, for example, spray painting asinine garage on the paths around campus.) given enough students and enough alcohol these things are bound to happen.

that said, the issue isn’t the elevator (for me at least – i never use it or had to pay for it), it’s babson’s policy regarding damages. it’s all too obvious to me that whoever did this weren’t residents of map hill. why, why, why in the hell would you ever severely damage an elevator that you use regularly? (unless you’re blacked out, i guess, and given babson’s drinking habits…) charging only the residents of map hill for this is harsh – 100 dollars at the end of the year is a lot of money. if everyone was charged it’d cost each student about 7.50. i’ve got that change, i’d pay it – i wouldn’t like it, but at least it would be more fair to the students in map hill.

there’s no logic behind this decision. except – babson just wanted to hide the fact that they couldn’t provide elevator services to their students. (i have a feeling that providing handicap access to buildings is a part of college accreditation.) and guess what – now everyone knows. now i’m pretty sure that it wasn’t barefoot that broke the elevator, but the failure to stop this destruction and catch the true culprit is his fault. in my mind, he has just as much responsibility for this as anyone else. (or doug, or ocl, or slug, or insert whoever here.)

a fee for everyone would serve as a deterrent to all the students on campus not to do stupid shit like this. charging only the map hill students right now is a win for anyone that loves to get drunk and destroy shit. what an idiotic position to take. maybe i’ll finish off a handle and go throw rocks at the president’s house – do you think barefoot would think it’s proper that he has to pay for my own my irresponsibility?

this school never fails to disappoint me. slug, doug, ocl – do you feel ever feel bad about the things people say about you? or do you just reproduce via spores?

“a fee for everyone would serve as a deterrent to all the students on campus not to do stupid shit like this.”

That’s a really good point. Not sure if it would hold up in practice, but certainly worth serious consideration.

Checked out your Babson Survival Guide. The food I ate on Basically Babson Day wasn’t even that good. I can’t imagine what it’s like when the administration isn’t looking to lure kids in.

For the record, I don’t think anyone got billed for the elevator. And since is after graduation, it would be a little late to do so since it would probably cost the school more to get a collection agency to go after half the graduating class than it would be to just let it go.

So it’s further proof that this site and the people that support it by posting here or directly challenging the way Babson does business are a complete success.

Yeah, I kept waiting for the elevator charge and it never showed up.

We are a complete success, if only the haters would realize that.
