Hey, I have to call you out on your guide to Babson. While most of the folks mentioned are totally fucking worthless (OCL this means you), you are totally wrong about your take on ITSD.

I have broken my laptop a few times (normally due to me doing stupid things) It has NEVER taken me, or any of my friends more than a day to get fixed. OK, once two days becasue it was over a sunday on a long weekend and they said they could not get in the part until Tuesday.

I asked friends at other schools and they are amazed at our program. TA Bentley the turnaround time is 4-5 days. At Wheaton you buy your own, but pay $75 AN hour just to have someone look at it – and if it needs a part it’ll be gone for 1-2 weeks. At Cal Poly the hassle of even getting your machine approved to to even connect to their network took my friend Andy about 2 weeks. If his machine dies, he pays the whole bill, not just a $100 deductable.

So by calling one of the few decent places at Babson a bad deal, you make it seem like you are just going to call everyone there names- even if they do not deserve it.

    Class deans?- yeah useless.
    CCD? Yeah, usless
lack of study rooms ? yeah a major problem.
but ITSD? They do a pretty damn good job from what I have seen and deserve some credit.

Sometimes I get caught up in the fact we pay $42k per year…

ITSD isn’t bad, but they are still at the mercy of all the idiots in charge of Babson.

And what does this have to do with the next Babson president???

yeah, baboboy is offtopic. but i’ll take his bait….i reread that section of the guide and i’m not really sure what he’s pissed off about. maybe it changed… but here’s the link: http://oclruinedmycampuslife.com/survivalguide/part4.php. (sorry, i looked for an archive.org version of this page, but could not locate one.)

ITSD is a great service, full of really bright people who work very hard. and as a computer geek myself, i know that their work goes highly under appreciated (even abused.)

just yesterday i had a major spillage on my laptop. i feared the worst – loss of 2+ weeks of work, not to mention 3gb of pictures over 3 years (my own photography, not porn you deviants.) i dropped off my laptop at about 2pm on a wednesday, tried to play stupid so i wouldn’t be charged for the $100 deductible and got my completely fixed computer back at about 11am the next day (new keyboard, new motherboard, maybe some other stuff.) granted, it is the summer, but that’s some damn fine work for $100 (if i will even get charged that – i didn’t the last time this happened, and yes, i’m an idiot.) not to mention i unfortunately don’t know that many people in ITSD, they have still have helped me out tremendously nonetheless.

so, yeah, i agree that ITSD is one of the few areas in babson that hasn’t been fucked up. (perhaps, and i’m going out on a limb here – because it’s mostly run by students? whmm… interesting.) but i’m not so sure you should spreading the haterade on the survival guide. i really don’t think whoever wrote this portion of the guide was trying to insult any of the people working for ITSD – if anything, he/she was trying to critique those that run the ITSD program (i.e. those people that are not students.)

thanks for the post though, i agree completely with these lines:
    “Class deans?- yeah useless.
    CCD? Yeah, useless
lack of study rooms ? yeah a major problem.
but ITSD? They do a pretty damn good job from what I have seen and deserve some credit.”

well, that didn’t last too long. spinelli is the most recent to jump off babson’s ship. read the press release here: http://www3.babson.edu/Newsroom/Releases/spinelliphillyu.cfm

    Isn’t that something.

It just echoes a common statement I hear from faculty/staff… “the good people leave because it sucks. then the stupid people still here get promoted and hire more stupid people.”

I just hope something good happens…

  6. Babo insider on July 19th, 2007

Spinelli left becasue the word is “the man” wants Patty Greene to be the next Prez. while everyone knew Steve was jonesing for it big time. He’s a major loss to the college – sadly one of many this year.

    I’m not knowcking Patty- but

I would say to the Trustees: if people are so unhappy with the school, and good folks are jumping ship, doesn’t that mean you should really try and bring in fresh new blood to sort things out from the top down, instead of promote from within where it will probably be business as usual?

  7. elliott on July 24th, 2007

Babo insider – thanks for the insight, i had no idea that “the man” was pushing for Patty Greene. wasn’t she the one that was pushing for friday classes? if someone can’t understand why friday (undergrad) classes is a terrible, terrible choice for babson, then they don’t deserve to sit in the president’s office. i’m not even going to explain why because it’s already been done by a million people before me.

i agree with on the fresh new blood. at the very least, i hope whoever gets the job is/was a professor for a long period of time. anyone that calls students customers is going to make a terrible president.

and just who is this “man” (captain?) that you speak of? i’ve been here 3 years and just recently strolled through the main crap headquarters – i only recognized about a quarter of the names on the doors. which i actually feel pretty bad about because i’ve got this ironic fascination with all things babson related. (perhaps morbid – like a horror movie that you can’t stand to watch but can’t… just…. look away – just spread out over years)

and as for talking to the trustees (another group that i have heard little from) – i just googled the list – http://www3.babson.edu/About/Trustees.cfm. babson has 45 trustees – 45!! now i’m no business whiz, but that seems like way too many people (bentley has 20ish.) no wonder babson seems so direction-less… i mean, do they just give you spots on the board as a way to raise revenue? how committed are these 45 trustees to the cause? how many of them read crapcampus?

(hopefully the babson list is only for current trustees, otherwise i’d look pretty foolish right now.)

  8. Crapmaster on July 25th, 2007

Man I really hope something good happens. I don’t think I’ve heard any good news about Babson for a while…

    p.s. no friday classes!
